Eyemouth Freezers improvement project is underway. This investment project will not only increase our processing capacity, but processing efficiency in regards to our core seasonal processing. At the heart of this investment is a new IQF freezer with a capacity to not only meet the increased demands of our current product, but to also open up new potential business opportunities outwith the harvest period. A 10 tonne per hour freezing capacity, with the upstream ability to blanch or rehydrate, packing downstream into bulk containers, cold storage on site, then on to our dedicated retail packing plants (Allergen / Non Allergen as product dictates), making us the one-stop shop for your processing needs, whether they be vegetable / vegetarian based. We are always open to new / potential product services we can offer Customers, please feel free to contact us to discuss your requirements.
The Company recently received a £480,000 EU funded grant from the Scotttish Government's FPMC programme towards our £1.2 million improvement project. This will help safeguard our existing operation and allow us to become equipped for ever increasing demands of current and potential new business. Our Chairman Peter Straker Smith (pictured with MSP Richard Lochhead, Cabinet Secretary on a tour of site) stated: "This award is a tremendous boost to the business. It will enable us to provide a secure foundation for the Company's future, for the development of the vining pea crop in the surrounding area and for our employees' prospects."
In regards to consistently providing the highest quality product, we never rest on our laurels. Eyemouth Freezers, and our growing partner Scottish Borders Produce, are always looking at new and innovative ways to improve the quality of our core product, the humble Pea. Since the 2014 season we have been trending Total Sugar Contents in regards to variety, variety type, area grown and grade. This allows us to create a sweetness profile, and over the coming years we hope that this will allow us to identify high performing varieties that not only allow us to maintain consistency, but ensure that only the sweetest garden peas make it to your table.
In April Eyemouth Freezers began co-packing vegetarian sausage products. This involved a substantial investment in a dedicated allergen line to handle soya, egg and gluten. This also meant introducing a second dedicated crimp seal bagging unit. This will allows us to further expand the current services that we can offer our customers, as a co-packer for their intermediate frozen product.
Since adopting the BRC standard in 2009, Eyemouth Freezers have consistently acheived Grade 'A', and this year we have acheived Grade 'A+' after undergoing unannounced audit to the new Version 7 standard. We pride ourselves on the fact that we have never received a major non conformance from accreditation / customer audits. This is testament to the dedication of all team members in maintaining high standards across site. Eyemouth Freezers is commited to a program of continual improvement, ensuring that our customer's satisfaction and consumer safety is always the key priority. All customers can be reassured by our consistent endeavours under this globally recognised standard.
